Honey & Charm

On the sweet life of art, fashion and food.

Le cinéma

Moulin Rouge

Easter is often a lazy holiday for me. I spend it lounging around, trying to take advantage of what is left of summer, and watching movies that I so love for the nth time. There are some moments in films that stay with you forever, and here is my little collection of some of my favourite moments.

Marie Antoinette

Virgin Suicides

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Atonement

An Education

Side notes: I have started working full time again, and as you may have noticed, I simply don’t have the time to post regularly. This is quite sad, and I do think that I should learn to balance. Wish me luck – after a few months of teething, I hope I will be able to get back into it! Also, keep an eye out for a food post soon. My friend is running a ‘Mystery Box Challenge’ a la Masterchef, and I participated too. The mystery ingredients are sweet potato, chorizo and nuts – I can’t post my recipe yet, but I will blog about it once it’s been judged :) .

Different Faces – Katya Riabinkina

Katya Riabinkina

My obsession with Katya Riabinkina went into hypermode when I saw that she opened for McQueen in that crazy crystal mask. Since debuting at Gucci in the previous season, Katya Riabinkina has been the darling of the Milan Fashion Week, opening at Gianfranco Ferré and walking for 17 other shows. Katya has a fresh and versatile look that brings with it  a multitude of opportunities. Her’s is the face to watch!

For me it was the Prada show! It was just amazing – every outfit was a piece of art and the Japanese inspirations were beautiful as well.

Vintage Mystery

The thing I love about Etsy is its vintage and upcycle spirit. That and the fact that it’s so easy to get lost in it, navigating through all those fascinating shops. I stumbled across this little shop, Ginny & Jude, and was immediately drawn to it. Named after two fictional characters who are dreamt up by the Sydney designer, Rabia Lockwood, it’s almost like we are peeking into the lives of two best friends through their closets. There’s a sense of mystery about the characters and I can’t help but want to know… what happened to the two girls?! These beautiful photos from the summer 2012/13 lookbook deepen the mystery. Starting from the name (“The Girl Can’t Help It“) to the piercing gaze of the girl in beautiful vintage wear and accessories, one almost feels like the sunny exterior belies a secret history!

Although I must disappointingly say that I cannot provide an answer as to why the mysterious girl looks so, well, piercing, I can say that you won’t be disappointed by the beautiful vintage pieces in the Ginny & Jude shop renewed with revived with a fresh breath of modern design and thoughtful textiles.

Unusual Shoes – Miista

Who here indulges in a bit of Sunday online shopping? The end of the weekend usually signifies for a certain kind of melancholy and activities, such as shopping, are shown* to be able to increase levels of seratonin to help regulate this feeling. So through this little segue, I’m going to introduce you to one of the sites I regularly go and conduct my Sunday window shopping on. Miista is a fashion forward London shoe company that choose to lead rather than follow. They offer a range of rather unusual and unique shoes that just look so delicious on the feet. Their SS13 “Electromancer” collection is simply one of a kind.

5 Awesome Brunch Ideas

Honey and Charm - Tea Morning

tea morning by tarandro

Hello readers! Aren’t you glad it’s the weekend? What is your favourite thing about the weekend? For me, it’s the idea of being able to wake up lazily in the morning, put on the coffee and take my sweet time deciding what I’m going to make for brunch (as you can tell, I’m a little cray cray over this brunch business). I know that classic things like pancakes are awesome, but I also love experimenting with my brunch. I’ shifted through a bunch of my book-marked recipes for brunch and picked out the 5 most awesome, but slightly different, ideas for your brunch this weekend.

Toasted Fennel and Orange Morning Cakes by Roost

reuben breakfast sandwich on pumpernickel english muffins

Reuben Breakfast Sandwich on Pumpernickel English Muffins by Gimme Some Oven

Ricotta and Pickled Fig Tartines by Leela Cyds

Brunch Ideas - Chedar Jalapeno Waffles

Cheddar Jalapeno Waffles with a Fried Egg by Eatsy

I love the creativity in each of these recipes. I mean, firstly, hello! Cake for breakfast! Then, you have the crazy rendition of a much loved favourite with… did I see right? Mindless shavings of truffles? More like mindless shavings of drool! The reuben sandwich and the ricotta and fig tartine are much more sane, apart from the fact that you need to add care and love by making some of the ingredients (the English muffin in the first and the pickled figs in the latter). Lastly but not least, who can resist a trumped up waffle?

So this weekend, have a lazy little sleep in, then pick an awesome recipe and recharge yourself.
